Winter of 2020 – Week 5

This was the hardest week that I’d had in a while. Purchasing a home on Monday took a lot of my mental and emotional energy and then work stress on Tuesday took what was left. By Wednesday, the day the U.S. Capitol was breached, I had nothing left. I took Friday off from running and hoped to rebound next week.

Winter of 2020 – Week 3

Without traveling this year, I was off from work having reached the coveted “use or lose” status with my annual leave. After a good marathon-pace run on Sunday, the home inspection for the new house my partner and I are purchasing had me on my feet more than usual on Tuesday and wrecked my medium run.

Winter of 2020 – Week 1

After a week of down-time, I started my winter training cycle! My goal is just to be fitter by spring so I can properly train for the 2021 London Marathon next fall. However, I was so focused on house-hunting that the first workout caught me by surprise.

Fall of 2020 – Week 11

This would be my last hard week of training because I decided to run the 2020 Alexandria (Virtual) Turkey Trot next week. But, it was still a stressful week because my boyfriend and I put a contract on a house! Ultimately, we didn’t get it, though, and by Thursday I was relieved to run off some of the anxiety!

Fall of 2020 – Week 8

The week started and ended with rainy weather but it didn’t impact my workouts. On Sunday, I ran a strong 15-miler in drizzle and by Thursday, the remnants of Hurricane Zeta came through the region and I got drenched during my 11 miler w/4 miles @ goal marathon pace workout.

Fall of 2020 – Week 7

This week, I hit all my goal paces and distances. I’ve been struggling for over a year now and it felt great thinking that I’m coming out on the other end of it. And, I got several doses of motivation this week including a 2020 Boston Marathon Virtual Experience finisher box!

Summer of 2020 – Week 12

This was the last week of Phase 3 of Daniel’s Running Formula’s half marathon training plan! Meanwhile, I missed the registration deadline for the virtual London Marathon and after 22 weeks of teleworking, prepared to return to on-site in September.

Summer of 2020 – Week 11

Just as I was feeling like my fitness was improving, my body showed signs of over-training: fatigue during my speed workouts and the return of piriformis syndrome. The weather also played a part as a storm on Thursday morning forced me to run my threshold run in the afternoon.

Summer of 2020 – Week 10

It turned into a bit of an easy week because the speed and threshold workouts weren’t particularly difficult. I also felt a great sense of relief when the London Marathon announced the 2021 race would be canceled. Back in April, I was in no shape to run in a “championship”. Instead of dragging my broken body across a finish line, I’ll have the chance to compete next year.
