2021 London Marathon – Week 4

This week, I started setting pace expectations for my runs. Sunday’s long run was only 16 miles so I wanted to run it faster than usual but the weather didn’t allow it. The heat also made my “speed” workout fairly slow. But I completed the runs and by the end of the week, had confidence about completing my workouts in the heat.

2021 London Marathon – Week 1

This week, I would be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with Wednesday marking two weeks since I received my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine! I started this training cycle easy, though. On Sunday, I ran a 16-mile long run around Arlington, Virginia (my hometown) and on Thursday, I did a similar route for an 11 mile “medium” run.

Winter of 2020 – Week 9

The week started with snow – about two inches and then we got two more on Tuesday. I ran loops on the salted roads in my neighborhood to avoid slick pavement but my mid-week was back on the trails. It wasn’t a bad week – I got my runs in despite the bad weather, but I missed the mileage goal by quite a bit.

Winter of 2020 – Week 7

By Monday evening, my partner and I had moved into our new house! In anticipation, I ran long last Saturday but got back to training on Tuesday. Some severe eye pain caused me some concern, so I spend Wednesday resting and watching the inauguration but I was back running by Friday.

Winter of 2020 – Week 6

It was a busy week getting ready for my move to a new house! I completed a marathon-pace run on Sunday and stayed on schedule until Wednesday when I moved the training calendar forward a day in anticipation that I wouldn’t run long on moving day next Sunday. On Thursday evening, I stayed late at the new house but still ran the next day.

Winter of 2020 – Week 5

This was the hardest week that I’d had in a while. Purchasing a home on Monday took a lot of my mental and emotional energy and then work stress on Tuesday took what was left. By Wednesday, the day the U.S. Capitol was breached, I had nothing left. I took Friday off from running and hoped to rebound next week.

Winter of 2020 – Week 4

Happy New Year! This year, my New Year’s Eve celebration was mild enough for a medium long-run the next day. While I managed to get my runs in this week, my thoughts were mostly on next week’s real estate closing. I was off from work this week, which enabled me to start some runs later in the morning.

Winter of 2020 – Week 3

Without traveling this year, I was off from work having reached the coveted “use or lose” status with my annual leave. After a good marathon-pace run on Sunday, the home inspection for the new house my partner and I are purchasing had me on my feet more than usual on Tuesday and wrecked my medium run.

Winter of 2020 – Week 1

After a week of down-time, I started my winter training cycle! My goal is just to be fitter by spring so I can properly train for the 2021 London Marathon next fall. However, I was so focused on house-hunting that the first workout caught me by surprise.

Fall of 2020 – Week 10

n Sunday, I completed a 16-mile run that included a stop at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. My Yasso 800 workout was slow and my medium run was cut short but considering it was roughly a year ago that started high blood pressure medication after showing up at my doctor’s office in hypertensive crisis, it was a good week.
