2021 Boston Marathon – Week 1

I caught COVID-19! A few days after running the 2021 South Lakes 10K, I tested positive. I spent a week recovering before I resumed training but due to travel and testing complications, accepted that I shouldn’t attempt run the London Marathon. As the British say, I was “gutted” – extremely disappointed after all the training that I’ve done to miss out on the inaugural Wanda Age Group World Championship! But, the Boston Marathon is a pretty nice consolation prize.

2021 London Marathon – Week 11

After running the Roosevelt Island DC Parkrun the day before, I skipped my long run on Sunday and decided to just pick up where I left off with speed-work on Tuesday. Otherwise, it was an uneventful week as I continued watching COVID-19 rates in the UK.

2021 London Marathon – Week 8

The weather was cooler than usual for my 18-miler on Sunday. On Tuesday, the temperature rose to the mid-70s for my 600m repeats workout. Due to near 80-degree heat, 7 miles @ goal marathon pace became marathon effort. After a check-up on Wednesday, I felt confident that whatever was negatively impacting my training in the fall of 2019 resolved itself but I have a long road back to my former fitness level.

Winter of 2020 – Week 6

It was a busy week getting ready for my move to a new house! I completed a marathon-pace run on Sunday and stayed on schedule until Wednesday when I moved the training calendar forward a day in anticipation that I wouldn’t run long on moving day next Sunday. On Thursday evening, I stayed late at the new house but still ran the next day.

Winter of 2020 – Week 2

On Sunday, I had a mediocre long run. Then, on Tuesday, my boyfriend and I bought a house! After celebrating that night, I skipped my medium run on Wednesday morning. A podcast reminded me that, although 2020 was a bleak year overall due to the Covid 19 pandemic, there were bright spots.

Fall of 2020 – Week 12

After a fantastic long run on Sunday, I did a mini-taper before running the Alexandria (Virtual) Turkey Trot on Thursday. My course was a 5-mile loop around the Tidal Basin and Hains Point. Next up: a recovery week before training for an undetermined spring marathon.

Fall of 2020 – Week 5

After five weeks of hard training, this was a cut-back week. I dropped my mileage from the week before by 30% but kept up the intensity. Sara Hall’s finish at the 2020 London Marathon provided inspiration during Sunday’s run! And, I attempted to improve one of my RunWashington’s DMV Distance Derby times.
