2021 London Marathon – Week 2

This week, I started what will be my typical schedule for this training cycle – long run on Sunday, speed work on Thursday, and a “medium” run on Thursday. It was a rough start, though, as high heat and humidity led me to run 18 miles on the treadmill! The other runs were outside, though, and went well.

2021 London Marathon – Week 1

This week, I would be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with Wednesday marking two weeks since I received my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine! I started this training cycle easy, though. On Sunday, I ran a 16-mile long run around Arlington, Virginia (my hometown) and on Thursday, I did a similar route for an 11 mile “medium” run.

Winter of 2020 – Week 10

There was another snow warning to start the week and then on Wednesday and Friday, too. I had a disappointing marathon-pace workout on Sunday but a great interval session on Wednesday. But, the week ended in disaster after I tripped during an easy run, breaking two fingers and skinning my knee!

Winter of 2020 – Week 9

The week started with snow – about two inches and then we got two more on Tuesday. I ran loops on the salted roads in my neighborhood to avoid slick pavement but my mid-week was back on the trails. Winter of 2020 – Week 8

On Sunday, I belted out a 21-miler – my longest run by far since last April. I skipped Wednesday’s medium run, though. Now that COVID-19 cases in the county have dropped, I felt more comfortable returning to my gym. Next week might be interesting as the forecast calls for snow on Sunday…

Winter of 2020 – Week 7

By Monday evening, my partner and I had moved into our new house! In anticipation, I ran long last Saturday but got back to training on Tuesday. Some severe eye pain caused me some concern, so I spend Wednesday resting and watching the inauguration but I was back running by Friday.

Winter of 2020 – Week 6

It was a busy week getting ready for my move to a new house! I completed a marathon-pace run on Sunday and stayed on schedule until Wednesday when I moved the training calendar forward a day in anticipation that I wouldn’t run long on moving day next Sunday. On Thursday evening, I stayed late at the new house but still ran the next day.

Winter of 2020 – Week 5

This was the hardest week that I’d had in a while. Purchasing a home on Monday took a lot of my mental and emotional energy and then work stress on Tuesday took what was left. By Wednesday, the day the U.S. Capitol was breached, I had nothing left. I took Friday off from running and hoped to rebound next week.
