2021 Year End Review - Banner 2

2021 Year End Review

A very late year-end review for 2021! It was another year of injury and illness. Last February, I fell, breaking two fingers and skinning my knee! In May, I started training for the 2021 London Marathon (as part of the inaugural Wanda Age Group Championship). But in September, I tested positive for COVID-19! A month after recovering, I ran the 2021 Boston Marathon! Unfortunately, I did not re-qualify for next year’s race. For the rest of the year, I ran relatively low mileage but focused on interval training in an attempt to get my speed back in 2022.

2021 Boston Marathon – Week 1

I caught COVID-19! A few days after running the 2021 South Lakes 10K, I tested positive. I spent a week recovering before I resumed training but due to travel and testing complications, accepted that I shouldn’t attempt run the London Marathon. As the British say, I was “gutted” – extremely disappointed after all the training that I’ve done to miss out on the inaugural Wanda Age Group World Championship! But, the Boston Marathon is a pretty nice consolation prize.

After staying up late on Saturday night, I pushed my first 22-mile effort of this training cycle to Monday. After my interval run on Wednesday, I skipped another workout for the week and did easy runs in preparation for the South Lakes 10K on Sunday! Finally, I’ll be racing in-person again!

2019 New York City Marathon – Week 8

This week was supposed to start the race preparation cycle of my training, but I was down and out with a cold for three days! Fall officially arrived on Sunday but the temperatures in the Washington, DC region were still breaking records.
